6th World Congress: Sunday Special Sessions

  • POLITICAL ECONOMY OF HEALTH (Free)

Date: Sunday 8 July 2007
Time: 9.00am to 4.00pm

The workshop will explore a number of the ideological and political issues surrounding health and health care in the 21st century. In particular, speakers will look at the links between neo liberalism and both health and health care in a global context. Plenty space will be allowed for comments from the floor.

There is no charge for this workshop which will include teas, coffees and light lunches. Registration in advance is desirable for catering purposes but come along on the day if you wish

  • CONTROVERSIES IN HEALTH CARE FINANCING: PERSPECTIVES AND DEBATE (Free)

Date: Sunday, 8 July 2007 Venue: DANIDA

Objectives of the Pre-Conference Session on Health Financing: Although much is known about the issues and policy options for improving health financing in other regions and higher income levels, there is still a considerable knowledge gap on how best to approach this challenge in the context of the low-income levels and weak institutional capacity. The overall goal of the pre-conference session on health care financing will be to deepen understanding about how to secure:

  • more fiscally sustainable sources of funding for the health sector;
  • improved management of financial vulnerability; and
  • better value for money spent on health care

To register in advance for these Special Sessions: http://www.healtheconomics.org/register2007.html

6th World Congress: Updating Abstracts for Proceedings

We will be sending out instructions soon so that presenters will have an opportunity to update their abstracts for the Congress Proceedings. Notices will be emailed to presenters. Please check the website for updates.

John F.P. Bridges to be Founding Editor of new Journal “The Patient”: Call for Papers issued

Wolters Kluwer announced this week that John F.P. Bridges, Ph. D., of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and a leading proponent of patient-centered approaches to medicine will be the founding editor of “The Patient”. Interest in patient-centered approaches is growing at a rapid pace, as is the body of scientific research on the topic. According to a recent study by Dr. Bridges, there has been exponential growth in the number of studies focusing on patient preferences in medicine over the last decade. The Patient was created to address an unmet area of outcomes research by providing a specialized forum and outlet to help the field flourish.

Wolters Kluwer Health has issued a call for papers for The Patient — Patient Centered Outcomes Research, a groundbreaking new journal that puts the spotlight on patient-centered medicine. To be published under the Wolters Kluwer Health Adis brand, this journal is dedicated to using the scientific method for accessing patient perspective of therapy and medical technology. The premier issue is due later this year and will initially be published on a quarterly basis. Available globally in late 2007, The Patient joins a long and trusted line of peer-reviewed Adis publications focused on improving patient health including Drugs, Drug Safety and Pharmacoeconomics. The new journal is aimed at the international medical and health communities and will serve researchers and scientists, and government, regulatory, insurance and pharmaceutical industry professionals. Interested authors should contact Chris.Carswell@wolterskluwer.com. For more information, visit http://www.wkhealth.com/.
